Dancing Through The Storm

“Cancer cannot cripple love, it cannot shatter hope, it cannot conquer the spirit.” — Unknown

Update - March 14th, 2023

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we share with you that one of our own IDC family members has lost her battle with cancer.

For those who haven’t been following her story, our beloved Emily put up a huge fight and had so much strength and hope that she would beat her cancer. In the summer of 2021, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. That didn’t stop her, as a Doctor Emily knew people who would be her best defense to help her through this and she was placed right away in a trial with the Mayo Clinic. Her treatment had worked and everything was moving in the right direction by leaps and bounds. As a studio, we created a fundraiser to help her and her daughters with dance class expenses and once things were covered, the remaining of fundraiser was donated in her name to her organization of choice.

Emily continued to come to dance class, and she would light up the room with her humor each week when she would come to drop off her girls for class, you could find her practicing in another studio her dance. Emily loved Tap and loved every minute of her class and watching her girls perform on stage. Unfortunately, things took a turn in the wrong direction and Emily became ill and was in and out of the hospital since November 2022. When she was feeling good, she would come to the studio to bring her kids to class and just light up the room with her smile.

Emily is more than just a student or dance mom here at Intrepid Dance Company, she is family, and we will miss her smiling face each and every week, but we know that Emily is still dancing and lighting up the room with her love, passion, and rays of hope and she will be deeply missed by all of us here. The studio would like to donate again to Emily’s organization in her honor and the studio will collect donations and make that donation on her behalf on May 1st.
