Let It Go!

Elsa of Disney's movie Frozen says it best – “Let It Go!” As we embark on a new year and say a well-deserved farewell to 2020, we need to need to let go of how it was before in order to move forward.

During my holiday break, I learned from a dear friend of mine who took a Crisis Management class that the biggest takeaway for me from our conversation was to Let go of how it was before. Business and life have changed - permanently. We have learned a lot, had to pivot, and had to adapt. However, it is now time to move from crisis mode to continuity. We need to assess our resiliency – our ability to spring back into shape, to recover from a challenge, and our approach to innovation. Do we have a toolkit to move from crisis to continuity? (Road to Resilience Training Program) We need people, processes, infrastructure, and technology.

My word for 2021 is overcome. I also thought of resilient and empower. My mantra for 2020 became endure – I was very committed to not giving up, to exploring all the resources available to me, and to continue to work every day to make changes and adapt. Was it perfect? No? Did I make mistakes? Absolutely.

I have also decided to add another word to my vision board – Implement. I am really good at gathering ideas. I am not really great at implementing all of these ideas - out of fear of failure, time constraints, lack of resources, etc. So, I write it down in a notebook and turn the page. Not to say I don’t implement, but there are good ideas I could and probably should explore further. And it’s ok if I discover that it isn’t right for me or my business. To implement, I need to move the roadblocks.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Create a plan

Commit to things that will make a difference

There comes a point in all of our lives where we need to let go. We need to let go of the past: the hurt, unmet expectations, loss, hopes, and dreams. It is a healthy way to move on. We cannot possibly continue to move forward in our own lives if we are constantly holding on to that bar from our past.

What happens when we decide to let go?

1) Discover a new positive outlook

2) Make room for the new

3) Handle new obstacles with grace

4) Love yourself first

5) Inspire others

6) Grow closer to your destiny

7) Naturally attract what you need

8) Grow empathy for others

9) Know in your heart what is good for you

10) Realize YOU are really all you need
